2012 Mentoring Awards Dinner

Medals.  Trophies.  Graduates.  Pictures.  Cookie Contest.  Bouncy Balls.  Pinwheels.  Malaysian food.  What do all these things have in common?  They were all a part of this year’s Mentoring Awards Dinner!  We had a great attendance of 173 at our dinner, which was hosted at Countryside Christian Church.  The purpose of the evening was to honor Mentors, Protégés, High school graduates and Churches who have been involved with Youth Horizons over this past year and in some cases, decades!  We started off our program by introducing 46 new matches that have been made in the past six months!!!  In addition to our new matches, we recognized each Mentor/Protégé match for their achievements in one of the following areas:  Community Service, Academics, Discipleship qualities and Life Skills.  We were also excited to honor six high school graduates in our program this year!  Pictured here is one of the matches that graduated from High School – Jeff and Jordan.  Jeff and Jordan have been matched since 2002.  In the fall Jordan plans to attend Cowley County Community College and would like to major in Computer Science. We are proud of the accomplishments of all our kids and mentors, especially our graduates. Our high school grads are great examples of how mentors are helping accomplish our mission of empowering children to become healthy and productive mentors of our community!
