Easter Sun Run Recap

Race Day for the 2013 Easter Sun Run dawned a little wet on March 30 with early-morning showers and storms.  However, by the time runners and walkers started gathering in Sedgwick County Park, the rain had stopped and the weather resolved into ideal running conditions. The 19th annual event saw 1933 total registrants, in addition to the many volunteers, friends and family who came to help and watch. We had exceptionally generous sponsors this year, including: Donovan Auto & Truck Center, Newton Medical Center, Meritrust Credit Union, ADR Printing, River Community Church, Hutton Construction, Daystar Petroleum, and Westridge Community Church. Thanks to their participation and the help of so many friends and supporters, we were able to see a $40,000 net profit in our fundraising efforts. That money goes directly to support Youth Horizons.

After the race, one participant from Iowa shared the following,

“That you very much for a job well-done! I see you’ve been holding this for quite a few years which explains much about how well-organized it is, but as someone who races every weekend of the year, I feel semi-qualified to judge the quality of the events I do, and I thought yours was excellent.”

We are thankful for such kind words of encouragement. Photographer Joshua Ayres was on hand to capture the race; for more of his pictures visit our Facebook page at Facebook.com/EasterSunRun.
