Letter from Earnest – January 2013

Earnest AlexanderNo doubt most of you had a wonderful Christmas. I say that by faith.  That is not to imply that you didn’t experience some challenges or possibly had some loss or felt the pressure of the lack of money during this very commercial time.  But in spite of it all, you were able to see the real reason for the season and you celebrated the goodness of our God.

In all humility, I confess to you that it has been a conscious choice for me to celebrate.  I will not elaborate on the numerous challenges I’ve been confronted with during this holiday season, but I will tell you that not for one moment have I doubted the goodness of the Lord.  I’ve still found a reason to sing and I’ve enjoyed the spirit of generosity in giving.

As you look to this New Year, please focus on the Christ.  Remember that if with all your heart you truly seek Him, you will surely ever find Him.  The Christmas concert was a tremendous success.  Many new friends were made and because of you all who are faithful and longtime friends – note I did not say old J – we ended with another exceptional year behind us.

The new staff is in place for the second house.  Mentoring continues to make a profound impact in our community, and I am busy telling everyone that I can about the needs of at-risk youth.  Thank you for the part you play in all of this.  Just in case you didn’t know, Jesus is the reason for the season.  Happy New Year!

Your friend,
