2014 Christmas Benefit Concert Review

2014-12-01-concert-youth horizons-0156“I’m really glad that you’re my mentor, because you’re a figure I don’t really have. My grandparents have all passed away, and you’re that figure in my life now.”

Teresa is 16 years old and is part of the Youth Horizons mentoring program. She shared what her mentor Patricia means to her as part of a video presentation at the 2014 Christmas Benefit Concert.

The video was shown – along with two highlighting the Kinloch Price Boys Ranch – at the December 1 and 2 concert, at ABODE Venue.

The evening of jazz Christmas music featured Earnest Alexander, joined by the Friends University Jazz Musicians and Vocalists led by Lisa Hittle and Craig Curry. Performances included songs from Earnest, Rodney Bartlett, numbers from the Friends Jazz Ensemble, the Friends Jazz Vocal Ensemble, and Forward Motion, an acapella group from Craig Curry.

The Monday night performance was standing room only, and Tuesday night drew a large crowd as well. It was the first year the concert was held at the venue, and the first year to have the participation of the groups from Friends University.

Event sponsorship increased, with a total of 38 individuals and businesses helping support the event. Additionally, more than 40 volunteers helped during the two evenings.

The event took in more than $85,000 before expenses, and we are exceptionally blessed by the generosity and faithfulness of so many.
