2015 Mentoring Update
It’s been a year of new partnerships and activities for Youth Horizons mentoring, and it’s exciting to see matches grow and go deep!
“I painted an outer space picture because I like science. The flowers are like the other planets.
There are two of me on the rocket ship. It’s like a warning to other planets that if they try to attack, we will send one of me to their planet!”
Ilyana, age 11
Ilyana displayed her masterpiece at the first-ever Youth Horizons Final Friday art display. The event took place Sept. 25. and was attended by 180 people. Children in the mentoring and residential programs had the opportunity to submit artwork on the theme “My Story.”
We’ve been blessed to have a number of local churches help with mentoring events throughout the year.
Riverlawn Christian Church hosted our Back-To-School party in August. The event was a tremendous success and very well attended.
In October, Pathway Church held our Fall Party at the Kinloch Price Boys Ranch. The kids – and adults – enjoyed the activities and games.
Throughout the year, Calvary Chapel has helped make game nights possible with food and volunteers. The nearly monthly events are always fun!
Another first this year was STEM Night. The science, technology, engineering and math themed evening included a number of fun, educational games.
Currently there are about 120 active mentoring matches and 42 kids who are still waiting for a mentor. For more information about how to become a mentor, call 262-8293.
