A Snapshot of Mentoring
You may have heard about mentoring a hundred times, and may even be aware of the value of the faithfulness, stability, and consistency it provides for a child from a hard place. But what does it actually look like? We would love to give you just a little glimpse into how extremely practical, possible, and FUN mentoring can be. What do matches do together?
Last month, we had matches do everything from sewing and making slime to working out and participating in a Pinewood Derby.
Every year, matches celebrate the month in which they were matched with their mentor coach. Here is a glimpse into one of those meetings:
Last night I (Tim) sat down with Ryan and JoJo to celebrate their three year anniversary. We had a good visit. One thing that stood out to me was just how good of a relationship they have. JoJo was able to talk through many of the fun things they have done together; Bliss Climbing, kayaking, reading through Deuteronomy, and playing board games, to name a few. We also talked about the challenges that they have faced. Ryan, being in med school, has had times when he has had a rough life schedule, but they still managed to stay in good communication. A lot of this is due to mom’s support of the match. They have a difficult conversations, but going through those they have built trust and respect.
