Sprinting to Success
As youth prepare to return to school, one Youth Horizons Protégé is headed to college. Lexi Valle-Ponds, a graduate from Newton High School, earned a student-athlete scholarship to attend Tabor College in Hillsboro. She recently enjoyed a signing day event at her school. Her mentor, Marlynn Branam, attended the signing day. Lexi is an outstanding athlete who participated in volleyball, basketball, and track and field during her middle and high school years. She set a few high school records in the 100 meter dash and 4×100 relay as a Newton Railroader. Marlynn has been one of her biggest fans. They have been matched for more than 10 years. Though Lexi recently graduated from Youth Horizons’ Mentoring Program, she and Marlynn plan to stay in touch and extend their mentorship.
