Easter Sun Run Approaches the Starting Line

Ready… Set… We hope you are training for one of the biggest outdoor events of early spring here in Wichita. We are only days away from the 28th annual Easter Sun Run, which will be held on Saturday, April 16 at Sedgwick County Park. The 2022 race marks our return to an on-site event at the traditional race site. Since 2020, the Easter Sun Run has been a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You still have time to register for the 10K or the 2-mile Jeff Wenzel Memorial walk/run and enjoy the other activities, festivities and fellowship. We are approaching record-setting registration numbers, with nearly 1,000 runners and walkers registered so far.

There will be cash awards sponsored by Cornerstone Data for the top three male and female runners in both events, with 1st place receiving $300, 2nd place receiving $200, and 3rd place receiving $125. Also, if you have maintained your conditioning during the pandemic and if you better your 2019 10K Easter Sun Run race time, you will win a $20 gift card to Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant, courtesy of sponsors Donovan Auto & Truck Center and Abuelo’s.

The event is not just for the swiftest. The Easter Sun Run is first and foremost a family-friendly event. For example, the Family Fun Zone, sponsored by Icon Structures, includes several fun activities. They include an Easter egg hunt, egg painting, a water balloon toss, inflatables, face-painting, an Easter egg relay race and pictures with costumed characters. If all those activities and running and walking leave you hungry, no worries. The Easter Sun Run’s traditional cookout returns, including hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, cookies and more.
