Raevyn’s Remission
by · May 13, 2025
There are moments in the life of a child that call for more than just celebration – they call for gratitude, reflection, and awe. This is one of those moments.
Last fall, one of our Youth Horizons protégés, Raevyn, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) at just 12 years old. What followed was a season of hardship and resilience as Raevyn and her mother, Candi, journeyed back and forth to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City for treatments, appointments, and difficult days that tested their strength.
Raevyn stood strong.
Through every round of treatment, every long drive, and every moment of uncertainty, Raevyn displayed a remarkable spirit for her young age. Her courage inspired not just her family, but all of us privileged to walk this path beside her.
Today, we are absolutely overjoyed to share the news: Raevyn is in remission.
This month, she turns 13. And on Mother’s Day, family and friends will gather to celebrate not just another birthday, but a hard-fought victory over leukemia. Her life, her laughter, and her light are gifts we cannot take for granted.
Throughout her journey, Raevyn has been mentored and supported by three incredible women through the Youth Horizons Mentor Program: her current mentor, Kanetha Brown, and two previous mentors, Kim Eaves and Victoria Tully. Each has poured into her life with faithfulness, love, and encouragement, and we are so grateful for the community that has surrounded Raevyn and her family.
We thank God for His healing hand and for the strength He has given Raevyn. This birthday is more than a milestone – it’s a testimony.
Happy 13th birthday, Raevyn. We can’t wait to see all that this next chapter will hold for you.
