Mentor Anniversaries – January
by · Jan 24, 2025
As we celebrate National Mentoring Month throughout the month of January, we want to take this opportunity not only to highlight our mentor match anniversaries but also give pause on the long-term developmental relationships that they represent.
In a world that often celebrates quick fixes and instant gratification, the value of long-term commitments can be overlooked. Yet, when it comes to mentoring, research shows that longevity is one of the most critical factors for success. At Youth Horizons, we believe long-term mentoring relationships can change lives, and this belief is rooted not only in evidence-based studies but also in our Christian faith.
Studies consistently show that the longer a mentoring relationship lasts, the more profound its impact on the mentee:
These findings underscore that mentorship is not about quick wins but about building a foundation of trust, stability, and growth—a foundation that takes time.
For those of us in the Wichita church community, this emphasis on longevity aligns beautifully with Christian values. Scripture repeatedly calls us to steadfastness, patience, and relational investment:
At Youth Horizons, we view mentoring as a ministry of presence. It’s not just about offering guidance or advice; it’s about embodying Christ’s love through consistency and care. Our mentors commit to walking alongside their mentees for the long haul, offering stability in a world that can feel chaotic.
This commitment is particularly critical for the youth we serve, many of whom come from challenging backgrounds and limited family resources. For these children, a mentor’s steadfast presence can be a lifeline, providing a glimpse of God’s enduring love and faithfulness.
If you’re part of the Wichita church community, we invite you to prayerfully consider becoming a mentor. It’s a commitment that requires time and patience, but the rewards—both for you and the child you mentor—are immeasurable.
Through your faith and dedication, you can:
Long-term mentoring is not just a program or a strategy; it’s a calling. It’s about showing up, time and again, for a young person who needs someone to believe in them. As we recruit mentors from Wichita’s church community, we’re reminded that this work is a reflection of God’s heart—a heart that is patient, steadfast, and endlessly faithful.
Do you hear the calling?
We are deeply grateful for our mentors and their church communities:
